Could Consumers be affected by the transfer of Lotteries to Subsidiary?

(Brasilia).- Caixa Econômica Federal's Board of Directors has approved the transfer of the bank's lottery activities to Caixa Loterias. The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Caixa, and was set up in 2015 for this purpose.

Could Consumers be affected by the transfer of Lotteries to Subsidiary?

According to Caixa, the change could bring greater profitability to the business. "The migration will provide greater focus and contribute to the objective of modernising the lottery business, expanding the gaming market, diversifying products and increasing results," says the bank.

Caixa exclusively operates the lottery games service, which includes brands such as Mega-Sena. These services are exclusive to the Federal Government, by law, but they have faced competition from online sports betting shops, the so-called bets, which are different in nature and were regulated by the government last year.

Protests

The change was approved despite protests from the bank's employee associations, who said that the move could open the door to privatisation of the business. Caixa said in a statement published last Sunday (14) that this move depends on Congress, regardless of which lottery operator it is.

As well as betting, lottery shops are an important part of Caixa's service network. In December last year, there were 13,300 units across the country, out of a total of 26,500 physical points of service for the bank.
